About

Not Jam Signature 17 is a handwritten-style pixel font, based on my own handwriting! I've ended up making plenty of changes for readability and the practical considerations of resolution and the tools used to make it, but it's still a very odd font with, I think, plenty of the character of the real thing. Set font size to multiples of 17 in order to render correctly.

This font is, like my handwriting, deeply impractical and borderline illegible, and therefore I can only recommend it for adding a bit of character to background elements in a scene or similar use cases - it probably shouldn't be the primary font for your games or pixel art! But it seemed like a fun way to end my first batch of fonts for Free Font Friday though, so here it is :)

Please note: this font makes fairly extensive use of kerning pairs - if your software doesn't support these the spacing of characters will look incorrect.

The font is 17px in height (11px max ascender, 6px max descender) and available for use in any commercial or non-commercial projects, without limitation.

Download includes the font in .ttf format and a copy of the licence, along with all glyphs in .png format and a couple of JSON files which will allow you to import and edit the font using YellowAfterlife's Pixel Font Converter - instructions below!

If you use this font in your work I'd love to see it! Leave links in the comments below and I'll check them out

My actual handwriting below is for reference only - this isn't included in the download!

Also included within this pack is Not Jam Signature 21 - a 21px height font using the same letter forms as Not Jam Signature 17, but with added support for most Latin-1 Supplemental and Latin Extended A unicode characters.

Editing

Included within the download is a .png image containing all glyphs, along with 2 .json files containing settings for YellowAfterlife's Pixel Font Converter, which together will allow for quick and easy editing of the font if you need to make any changes.

  1. Open the .png file in the image editing software of your choice
  2. Make the required changes before saving a copy in .png format
  3. Follow the link to Pixel Font Converter
  4. Use the "pick image" button to upload the edited copy of the glyphs
  5. Use the import button to upload the .json file, making sure to select the 17px variant if you only need the basic latin glyphs or the 21px variant for the extended set.
  6. Feel free to update the metadata to reflect changes :)
  7. Once you're happy, use the save ttf button in the top right to export your new .ttf format font file
  8. If you're likely to want to make further edits, I recommend also using the export button to export your new settings as .json

Hey, I used this in my game for a game jam, thanks for making these awesome fonts. If you look on my page, the game is called "Swordbreaker's Oath" if you want to see it.

Heya, btw I was thinking, as you have a growing collection of fonts, could you set up a single bundle of all of them? It doesn’t have to updates often, but I think it would nice to have a single download for all your fonts, thank you and no pressure, I understand it may not be in your plans and that’s okay!

Sounds like a good idea to me! I'll put something together when I get a minute :)

I’m liking this one, I’ll try it in my project next time I have the chance.

Thank you very much! Hope it's a good fit for you :)

Hello you forgot to add license metadata

Thanks for letting me know! I've pushed an update to correct :)

It looks lie you meant metadata in ttf file... Is it correct? I didn't look at it but at it but if you added it there it is good. I meant itch license metadata

Oh fair enough! I meant the .ttf metadata, it was also missing there. Both should be up to date now - thanks again!
