Tutorial: Exports

Space Generator allows two types of export: .png, and Preset.

.png Exports

Clicking "Export .png" will iterate through all layers and generate a .png format image file at the resolution specified in the Settings tab containing a snapshot of that layer as it appears at the moment the button is pressed. Images generated in this way are CC0 licenced and can be freely used in any commercial or non-commercial projects.

There's a few things to note here:

  • Exports will be automatically titled based upon their layer name - for instance, a layer titled "Star Layer" would be exported as "Star Layer.png". Forbidden characters will be replaced with an underscore.
  • Planet layers are skipped in this mode - if you're looking to use the planet sprites in your own project I'd instead recommend downloading the sprites separately and implementing your own system to randomly spawn planets.
  • This export mode exports static images only, so naturally will ignore any settings that create animation/movement in layers (such as Star Layer flicker depth and rate parameters, or Nebula Layer oscillation settings)

Preset Exports

Clicking "Export Preset" will generate a .json file containing all of the data for each layer in the currently active preset. This can then be uploaded back into Space Generator via the presets tab, allowing presets to be saved across multiple sessions or to be shared with other users.

Please where is the "Export .png" option located

Hey! Click the tiny plus icon located in the top left corner of the screen to open the settings menu.

From there, clicking the Export tab will bring up the different export options including export .png

Itch seems to be having issues uploading images for me right now, but if you have any difficulties feel free to reply if there's a way I can send some screenshots over for you :)
